Freedom of Expression

Is it just me or is this tagline, "Freedom of Expression" for Botox full of irony?

elemental :: dichotomy

Drawing is my first love and I have returned to it by way of sculpture and painting to use it as a means to express my exploration into humans’ mark making traditions. Art’s social impact on various cultures has helped unify or break apart people but whether it is Paleolithic cave paintings or religious works, images have always connected our history and maintained a spiritual power. I started looking at Tibetan Buddhist art and Thangkha painting as a starting point to research this culture. Over time this exploration has evolved into a more complex and personal experience than I had anticipated. My drawing journey has become a thoughtful and visual meditation of my exploration of spiritual mark making by humans throughout history. My process reminds me of walking through a forest and having all of my senses holistically enlivened by the experience, and at the same time, noticing the details. For me, these drawings have turned into a method of discovering my own hand in a long history of mark making.
